Wedding Catch up
Skip to 36.40 for the start of the ceremony
So, we're just over 2 months in to married life and it is great; its so much fun to be building family together. We're learning a lot and enjoying each other's company. Of course, there are the usual ups and downs of personalities & expectations and the rest of life (sooooo much paperwork) but all four of us are experiencing so many of the Lord's blessings through one another.
I'll write more generally about life soon but today I'm going to respond to the many people who have asked for copies of the vows that we made at the wedding. It seems that many people were touched by the wedding ceremony and subsequent shin-dig; we're still having many amazing conversations now with people commenting on the presence of something they'd not experienced before with people questioning "we're missing something aren't we?" or "what was that feeling in the church that day?". We're having fun being able to speak into the lives of many families around us. It was also really humbling that over 900 computers around the world streamed the wedding live - from people ill in bed here in Stafford to groups of people, equipped with popcorn, crammed into houses in the Philippines.
Anyhow, the vows...
Giving of Rings
Jake to Freya
I give you this ring as a sign of our love, trust and marriage. I bring to you the best I am & hope to be that together we may be more than we could ever be without each other. I vow you the first cut of my meat, the first sip of my wine. From this day it shall only be your name that I cry out it the night and into your eyes that I smile each morning. I shall be a shield for your back as you are for mine.
Freya to Jake
I give you this ring as a sign of our love trust and marriage. I bring to you my brokenness that together we may find wholeness. By the power that Christ brought from heaven I will love you. As the sun follows its course I will follow you. As light to the eye, as bread to the hungry, as joy to the heart - may my presence be to you. Oh one that I love, till death comes to part us.
Questions to each other
Jake/Freya will you let me love you, protect you, honour & keep you? Will you share my bed & build a home with me? Will you journey through life beside me in faithfulness and trust that together we would give our all in co-creating with God in establishing his kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven? (I will or heck yes as Freya said).
Jake to Rufus
Rufus, I promise to be to you an example of steadfastness in the Lord & that from me you would learn to contend in the spirit for the things of God’s Kingdom & that in me you would find a model of how it is that you are to love and honour the women in your life.
Jake to Matilda
Matilda, I promise to be to you a model of God’s sacrificial love for you. That through me you would grow closer to your daddy in heaven & come to know your identity as a royal princess. That from me you would learn how to nurture and care for those who cannot do so for themselves & that in me you may find an example of how you expect to be treated by the men in your life.
Well, there you are - one of the great things about having some many people at our wedding is that there are so many people to hold us accountable - and now perhaps a few more people from reading this. So, if you see me from time to time, love me and my family by asking me how I'm doing with keeping these vows!
